It seems as if the majority of people, who say that they have studied the Bible, will all agree that the fourth kingdom, that the prophet Daniel talks about in chapters 2 and 7, is the Roman empire. I used to believe that this was the case as well, until I realised that this caused a problem with the ten horns that the beasts in the book of Revelation have and the ten toes on the image in Daniel 2. It seems that the majority of people have decided that they somehow have to force feed the Roman Catholic church into Bible prophecy and this has caused some people to then have to invent reasons for why the Pope is the little horn in Daniel 7, while other confused people think the whore of Babylon, in Revelation 17, is the Roman Catholic church. They will then get a bit confused when I then ask for a detailed explanation of why this is the case and I expect them to be confused because I know that they are just repeating something that they have heard someone else say.
If the fourth kingdom in Daniel 2 is the Roman empire, then that means that it should still be around now, but it was eventually defeated. Let us see what the Bible says in Daniel 2:40-43 which says "And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise. And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay." and you should notice that it says that iron subdues all things, so this fourth kingdom should defeat all kingdoms in the world and subdue them because it is the strongest kingdom of them all. Then the kingdom is divided, but the strength of iron is still there, so it still has the fighting force necessary to still rule the world, but there are also now the other ten kings who have risen, as mentioned in Daniel 7, but they will give their power to the beast as mentioned in Revelation 17. The final verse then confirms that the fourth kingdom is not the Roman empire because it says that they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men, while we know that the Roman empire consisted of the seed of men, so the seemingly-not-humans of the fourth kingdom are from somewhere else which is not the Roman empire. Daniel says that his interpretation is sure, so if someone wants to reinterpret what he is saying, then they are calling him a liar.

Where is the Pope's army?

We can now move over to Daniel 7 for some more information that helps to dispel the myth that says that the fourth kingdom is the Roman empire. We can read about the fourth kingdom again in Daniel 7:23-26 which says "Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces. And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end." and the first thing to note is that the fourth kingdom will devour the whole earth, but the Romans did not hassle the Chinese, Malaysians or Japanese, so they fell far short of what the fourth kingdom should have achieved. It also says that they will be diverse from all kingdoms, while we know that the Romans were just the Greeks with better shield work and more orgies. The fourth kingdom will also be around until the Ancient of Days sits, while we know that the Roman empire no longer has any strength and certainly was not dreadful, terrible and strong exceedingly. Make a note also of the ten horns, which are ten kings that shall rise, because they will be used in the next section to dispel the confusion about the role of the Roman Catholic church in Bible prophecy.

Who are the ten horns?

In Revelation 17:12-18 it says "And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful. And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled. And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth." and we see here that the ten kings have no kingdom yet, but will make war with the Lamb, so they will only be appearing near the end shortly before the Lamb returns. Some people will mistakenly say that the whore is the Roman Catholic church, but it says that the whore is the great city that reigns over the kings of the earth and we know that the Catholics do not have any influence in Iran and many other Muslim countries. The Chinese and Indians are also not too impressed by the Catholics, but there is certainly another organisation that has a great influence in these countries. We can also read Revelation 18:24 which says "And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth." and we see here that the blood of prophets were found in her, when we know that Jesus was the last prophet, but the Catholic church did not exist in His time. We also see that the blood of all that were slain upon the earth were in her and we know that the Roman Catholic church was not around when Abel was killed.
I have also read what some people have to say about who the ten kings are and they all seem to be very confused, which is not surprising because the majority of people think that they are having a good time avoiding God's commandments, which then makes them have a bad understanding, because each person seems to say a different thing. Some will even say that the ten kings are countries that currently have a kingdom, while Revelation 17 definitely says that these kings have no kingdom as yet, then they will have power as kings for only one hour with the beast, during which time they will destroy the whore. This also makes it obvious that the ten kings have to come in the future because neither the real whore nor the Catholic church (who has their part to play in the whore) have been destroyed yet.

Become a real Bible scholar

It looks therefore that most of these Bible scholars need to revise their thinking, but I have a feeling that there will not be any change, because they are still refusing to admit that their wisdom is suspect, due to them not seeming to fear God. You might also wonder why there are people who want to make it seem as if the fourth kingdom has already arrived, well it seems to me as if they are doing this in order to keep the worlds population asleep, so that they can carry on spending at the shops and allow the rich people of the world to get even richer. The job of the modern Christian church seems to be to convince people that God just wants them to have a joyful, peaceful and selfish life as long, as they keep the church fed with their money, with the profits being fed back to the rich merchants of the world, who are profiting from the costliness of the whore of Babylon.
The sad thing about this situation is that it seems to be the people who do not like God's commandments, who have the most influence when it comes to this subject, with them then saying that God's commandments have been done away with. They seem to have managed to gain the most profitable churches and the highest scholarly positions, as if it is not actually God who is supporting their rise. We can read of how to get wisdom and understanding in Psalm 111:10 which says "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever." and from reading this you should only expect people, who fear God and keep His commandments, to be the ones who will be able to give you good information about Bible prophecy. But you also need to understand that if you make the mistake of not fearing God and keeping His commandments, then any words that they speak to you will be wasted.
